Challenge:
Clara is a 90-year-old woman who is living with disabilities. She had been residing in her apartment for more than a decade when she unexpectedly received a 60-day eviction notice from her rental property owner stating that the property was being sold. She was filled with anxiety and didn’t know where to turn.
Outcome:
Luckily, Clara was referred to Neighborhood Networks for help. Neighborhood Networks deploys a community-based workforce—including housing navigators—to support people who have unmet health and social needs and connect them with available resources. Workforce members are employed by trusted, community-based organizations and meet clients where they are, whether at home or in their neighborhoods.
Through Neighborhood Networks, Clara was connected with a housing navigator who provided the following assistance:
- Found an available rental and helped Clara submit an application
- Helped Clara apply for financial housing assistance
- Worked closely with the landlord, who hired a contractor to build a ramp and railing to make the dwelling ADA accessible for Clara
Clara received $5000 in financial assistance, which covered her security deposit, all medically necessary home improvements, and a moving service to aid her in the transition. She is now living safely and securely in her new home.
